By DAN STRUMPF,

NEW YORK – E-mails released by a Senate committee investigating the financial crisis show top executives at Goldman Sachs Inc. boasting about money the firm was making as the housing market collapsed in 2007.

The documents suggest that Goldman benefited at least for a time from bets that subprime mortgage-backed securities would lose value. The e-mails appear to contradict previous statements by the investment bank that it lost money on such securities.

“Of course we didn’t dodge the mortgage mess,” CEO Lloyd Blankfein wrote in an e-mail dated Nov. 18, 2007, according to the documents released Saturday morning. “We lost money, then made more than we lost because of shorts.”

Short positions, in contrast to long positions, are bets that a financial security will lose value. Goldman is also the target of a civil fraud lawsuit brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission, which alleges that the firm misled investors about how a subprime mortgage-backed security was created. Goldman has denied the charges.

The e-mails were released by Sen. Carl Levin’s office, who is presiding over an investigation into the financial crisis. Blankfein, along with other Goldman personnel, are scheduled to testify during a Senate hearing into the crisis on Tuesday.

In another e-mail, Goldman Chief Financial Officer David Viniar says that in one day the firm made more than $50 million on bets that the housing market would collapse, according to a statement from Levin’s office.

“Tells you what might be happening to people who don’t have the big short,” Viniar writes in the message dated July 25, 2007. Viniar is also scheduled to testify on Tuesday.

This is a very interesting article on an unstoppable phenomenon happening in the United States. According to the US Census Bureau there are expected to be 115 Million households in the USA by the end of 2010. 115 Million households multiplied by $1,000 a year expense tells me that this is a ONE HUNDRED FIFTEEN TRILLION DOLLAR PER YEAR INDUSTRY that is growing every year.

John Anderson and Sharon Rapoport estimate they spend $400 a month, or close to $5,000 a year, keeping their family of four entertained at home.

There are the $30-a-month data plans on their BlackBerry Tour cellphones. The Roanoke, Va., couple’s teenage sons, Seth and Isaac, each have $50 subscriptions for Xbox Live and send thousands of texts each month on their cellphones, requiring their own data plans.

DirecTV satellite service, high-speed Internet access and Netflix for movie nights add more.

“We try to be aware of it so it doesn’t get out of control,” said Mr. Anderson, who with his wife founded an advertising agency. “But, yeah, I would say we’re pretty wired.”

It used to be that a basic $25-a-month phone bill was your main telecommunications expense. But by 2004, the average American spent $770.95 annually on services like cable television, Internet connectivity and video games, according to data from the Census Bureau. By 2008, that number rose to $903, outstripping inflation. By the end of this year, it is expected to have grown to $997.07. Add another $1,000 or more for cellphone service and the average family is spending as much on entertainment over devices as they are on dining out or buying gasoline.

And those government figures do not take into account movies, music and television shows bought through iTunes, or the data plans that are increasingly mandatory for more sophisticated smartphones.

For many people, the subscriptions and services for entertainment and communications, which are more often now one and the same, have become indispensable necessities of life, on par with electricity, water and groceries. And for every new device, there seems to be yet another fee. Buyers of the more advanced Apple iPad, to cite the latest example, can buy unlimited data access for $30 a month from AT&T even if they already have a data plan from the carrier.

“You don’t really lump these expenses into a discretionary category,” said Robert H. Frank, an economics professor at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. “As the expectation of connectedness increases, it’s what is expected for people to be functional in society.”

Americans are transforming their homes into entertainment hubs, which is driving up the amount of money they spend, said Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

“More people are creating experiences in their homes that are very similar to the kinds of public experiences they enjoy in movie theaters and concert halls,” he said. “Our homes are bristling with technology.”

Most people think home entertainment is cheaper. “Every time I want to go to Fenway Park or see the Killers in concert, I’m paying $50 to $100 each time. But once you build and install that home system, its basically pennies per minute of enjoyment,” said James McQuivey, an analyst with Forrester Research.

But they do not take into consideration the long-term economic effect — both in the maintenance and operational costs — of the devices they purchase. “A subscription model is the perfect drug,” Mr. McQuivey said. “People see $15 per month as a very low amount of money but it quickly adds up.”

Kate Goodall, for example, a 32-year-old director of fund-raising for museums, in Alexandria, Va., said the high costs of home cable and other subscriptions began to eat into her budget. “We saw the writing on the wall in terms of the cost,” she said. “It was getting ridiculous.”

She and her husband disconnected their cable and home phone line so they could more easily afford frequent dinners out and swimming, ballet and art lessons for their two small sons. Instead, they catch shows like “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” free at Hulu.com and rely on their cellphones as their primary phone lines.

Her husband, Mike Hughes, 37, a project manager, has both an Xbox and a Wii game console, but, in an effort to keep their bills down, she would not let him sign up for any gaming subscription services.

Consumers will have to make tough choices like Ms. Goodall and her husband as the next generation of connected devices — TVs and various mobile devices — that have their own data plan or subscription service come to market. The cable TV companies battle the phone companies by bundling cable, landline phone and Internet services, but most wireless carriers do not yet have any programs to bundle the data plans and offer discounts for myriad mobile devices.

Ms. Goodall says she dreads the day when her sons, 1 and 4, get bitten by the texting craze, as her 12-year-old nephew has.

“We’ll probably have to sign our sons up for cellphones even sooner than we’d like because we don’t have a home phone,” she said. “I’m not looking forward to dealing with that set of issues.”

I am an African-American man. My grandfather and his brother fought in World War I. He told me of the days when German prisoners of war had better accommodations than the African-American soldiers. Who was the real enemy then? The American soldiers of African decent or the Germans? I like many other American’s have been watching the recent events related to the lack of respect for the White House and the individual currently residing there. Who is the real enemy now?

My earliest recollections of “Dis-Honor” in the White House was during Watergate.

My more recent recollections of dis-honor in the Oval Office was during the Clinton Administration. The dis-honor was clearly drilled into America’s consciousness by the Honorable and always correct Righteous Far Right wing of America. That Clinton injustice to the Oval Office created a venomous environment on talk radio that still haunts our airwaves today. That environment today has gotten older, more stagnant and once again it is showing America what is wrong with the Oval Office. It just amazes me that the Far Right Wing is always correct or should I say “Right” on every issue domestic or international.

In hindsight I am so glad that they showed us Americans how to have the “Right” respect for the Oval Office by using that as a segue for a Compassionate Conservative Administration headed up by the “Dubya” administration. I have read almost every book that has been created by White House insider’s during those Compassionate Conservative years and to be honest. I was disturbed with what was revealed and I just want to know where was “That RIGHT Voice of Righteous Reason during the Dubya era”… Where were your words of outrage then for the injustices for the Oval Office Righteous Far Right? We were wondering where you were?

However, that is not what this article is about. I recently read an editorial in a Jamaican newspaper while visiting that lovely island island nation. The editorial provided a perspective of our country that exposes cracks in that which makes us American. It also asks is America spiraling back in time faster than Dorothy went to OZ?

I now know where you were Ole Righteous Voice of the Far Right….. You have been traveling, traveling BACK IN TIME……. But you will certainly be there by yourself, the rest of the world is clearly not interested in living in the past. Most of America did not like it then and does not want to revisit it any time soon.

Say it ain’t so Ole Righteous Voice of the Far Right….. please just say it ain’t so. Please don’t go away angry, just simply go away…..

Please see a portion of attached article below, the link for the full article is also below. I encourage comments. Let me make this clear I did not write this editorial, I simply want others to see this article.

American WASPS have awakened

It has finally dawned on white America that what it did last November is real after all. It has awakened from the dream, it has pinched itself and, dear Christian, Non-Muslim God, it has realized that the Black man in the White House is real. It is not a dream.

Fanned by the flames of dunces like Rush Limbaugh, who recently made a claim that school buses should be segregated; the bigoted Glen Beck; the xenophobic Sean Hannity; and the media pugilist Bill O’Reilly, all racists, significant sections of White America have been making the call that they ‘want their country back’.

It amazes me that a country so great can find glee in wallowing in backwardness. While the lunatic fringe of the Republican Party disputes that its fanatics are racists, it has forced Obama to agree with it, simply because it knows that Obama, the Black president, cannot afford to engage the nation in a great debate on racism. Not at a crucial time when he wants to push through his health reform bill.

When I was in Oxford, Mississippi last September for the first presidential debate, a young white student of the University of Mississippi who was a volunteer for Obama in the election campaign admitted to me that his grandmother was a racist. “I realize that I cannot change her because that is what she learned and grew up with from she was a child.

What is Residual Income and Just How do you get it? Part 2

Residual income is the smartest income you can earn. There are other ways to earn an income most people earn Linear Income.

Linear Income is related directly to the amount of work or effort you provide to earn it. (Hours for Dollars) or a sales commission on a sales transaction of some type. Linear income is what we are used to doing every morning after driving through traffic. You do “X”, and then a few weeks later they give you “Y”. In this case “Y” is a paycheck; but it could represent a fee, wage, commission or salary.

Residual income sometimes referred to as passive income; is income that continues to be generated after the initial effort has been expended. A great advantage of residual income is that once things are set in motion, you continue making money from your initial efforts, while gaining time to devote to other things… such as generating more streams of residual income! See why residual income is good.

There are lots of ways to earn residual income but one way that I have found is through Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP)

David Bach, Donald Trump and Rich Dad himself have gone on record saying in this economy get involved in Network Marketing also known as Direct Sales or Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) and learn how to start a business while earning residual income.

It is an inexpensive way to own your own business (usually $500.00 or less).
You can write off your investment and since this is a home based business you can also claim a portion of your mortgage or rent, utilities, the miles you drive and even half of what you pay when you eat out, it is usually less than free, all things considered. Your just lending yourself money until tax time. Make sure you hire a CPA so your taxes are correct. Luckily my spouse is a CPA.

Please leave a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts!

“It is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it well….”

In 1816 his family was forced out of their home.
In 1818 his mother died when he was 9 years old.
In 1832 he lost his job and was defeated for state legislature.
In 1833 he failed in business.
In 1835 his sweetheart died.
In 1836 he had a nervous breakdown.
In 1838 he was defeated for speaker of the house.
In 1843 he was defeated for nomination for Congress. (he was elected in 1846)
In 1848 He lost renomination ot Congress.
In 1858 he was defeated again for U.S. Senate.
In 1860 he was elected President of the United States of America.

We all can learn from such perseverance and determination.

Don’t Quit, Don’t Quit. Don’t Quit….

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

Where did we go wrong America?…… Â Well, Former US President and WWII Supreme Allied Commander Dwight David Eisenhower warned us all when he was leaving office almost 50 years ago….

Where did we go wrong America? Can the Current Economic Problems of America be summed up in two graphs? Yes.

With two graphs and a basic understanding of 1st year college Economics…. good old ECON 101, you too can be an economic genius. Â Let me take you back to the Fall semester of your Freshman Year in College, for me it was at The University of Connecticut.

My econ Professor said “A nation can choose to produce either guns or butter …remember those terms….. guns or butter.  Guns or Butter describes the relationship between a nation’s investment in defense (Guns) and civilian goods (Butter).  In this situation, a nation has to choose between two options when spending its finite resources. It can buy either guns or butter, or a combination of both. This can be seen as an analogy for choices between defense and civilian spending in more complex economies.”

That all sounded pretty reasonable to me at the time and should sound reasonable to you as well.
However, when you actually look at the current data what you see is shocking. I will let you see the information for yourself. You make your own decision.
But think about this when you do look at the graphs.

Where is the American taxpayers money for our Basic Infrastructure? Schools? Roads? Health Care? Research and Development on non-military things? Social Security? Mass Transportation? Parks? Renewable Energy? Our children? Our Elderly? …….?

You better wake up and realize that you need to take control of your life and find a way to take care of you and your family through residual income in this current economic situation.

President Bush and the cheap gas prices??? Is it me or am I the only one to notice that just maybe the things they told us in the recent past about fuel was just maybe a tall tale? Does China still need fuel like they did last year? What about India? Have these emerging economic powers cut WAY,WAY,WAY,WAY back on their oil consumption or WHAT!!! I know I still drive as much as last year…..well almost. I do work from home 50% more than last year. I still see many BIG Trucks and Hummers on the road… What is the secret that is driving down the fuel prices??? Could it be none other than the fact that BIG Oil realizes that the current administration “Big Oil Friendly” (BOF) is in its last days of existence. They had one hell of a run with all the record profits quarter after quarter. Just look at the graph.

As Arsenio Hall used to say…….. “Things that make you go hmmmmmm……..”
